The Banff Trading Post was founded by Norman Luxton in 1903 and has been operating for over 117 years. The Luxton family were the original founders from 1903 to 1961, who then passed it on in 1961 to the Garbert family.

Norman was a particularly colourful character and a key catalyst in establishing Banff as a bucket list tourist destination, and helped create strong ties to the local Indigenous communities.
